More tales...
The Frog's Promise
I had an idea for a new twist on a cliched fable... see what you think. Consider it an updated Grimm's Fairy Tale.
Okeefenokee Moon
I'm working on a sci-fi story cycle revolving around the idea of first contact. I get ticked off by the shallowness of most aliens in science fiction and this is my attempt to write a story with aliens who aren't either bug-eyed monsters or extensions of some human aspect. These aliens ought to be alien.
Stories That's what these are. Stories. Not for kids or grown-ups, but for everyone. North America helped me write them.
Horror and Grue
The ones on the top of the list are the most recent editions and, hence, the most polished in style. I should re-write the ones at the bottom of the list, but I just don't have the time to do everything...
- A Study in Horror
What is horror, anyway? (No gore at all. Really. Try it out...)
- The End and the Means
Definitely a spine-tingler... (Plenty gore. Be careful, kids.)
- Digging
A haunting tale of subterranean self-discovery. (Some gore, nothing a mature 6th-grader couldn't handle.)
- The Marriage
I've been reading Clark Ashton Smith lately, and I think this one shows the results of that dabbling. It's a short story and done mostly as a bit of fun. See if you can find all the inside jokes... (Some gore, could be a bit much for the sheltered kids out there to handle...)
- Digging
A chilling tale of subterranean self-discovery and ancient taboo. This is the second major revision. I thought I'd include it for anyone interested in seeing the development of the story.(Some gore, nothing a mature 6th-grader couldn't handle.)
- Digging
A chilling tale of subterranean self-discovery and ancient taboo. This is the first time through for this work. Again, included as part of the variorum edition of this website.(Some gore, nothing a mature 6th-grader couldn't handle.)
- Teuthis
An exploration into an underwater city reveals terrors that preferred to remain undisturbed. (This one gets pretty intense, especially at the end. Not for kids, that's for sure. Older teens and up would be an appropriate audience.)
- The Rude Administrator
A cautionary tale about the necessity of reading the manual before you ask a technical question. (Gets kinda weird at the end... older kids can handle it, but it ain't no bedtime story!)
- Screaming Into the Abyss
Discovery of supradimensional powers leads to a new sort of ethical dilemma as the conflict builds. (This gets brutal at the end. Like "Teuthis", this should be saved for your older teens and up.)
- Blakgard
A vignette of a lawman that spares no mercy, whatsoever. (I originally wrote this one for a high school English class. It should be OK for junior high kids, as well.)
Humor
Essays
I begin with a set of commentaries on Machiavelli's classic tome, The Prince. Enjoy, especially if it's required reading.

Visual Art
Some of these images are completely original, others are foobled. When you see a foobled image, you'll know. These are best viewed at high color or true color, with a screen setting of 1024x768, although 800x600 should be kind of OK. Don't worry about the number of images in a series, as each page after the first will pre-load the next image in the sequence for faster presentation.
Series Thirteen: China. All my pictures are up... well, the best 1000, really. I finally decided to just go with a photo show of all the things I had happen in China last year since I don't know if I'll have the time to finish writing about them. Day 1 is my trip up, not a lot there except for the great shot of the wall outside my window. Days 2-5 are Beijing, Days 6-the first half of 8 are Nanjing, and the rest are Shanghai - except Day 12 which includes the trip home. My favorite set is 10a, a great round of night shots in Shanghai. They're really bright and fun at the end of the shoot.
For most of these, Day 4 and afterward, I used a Canon A530 I purchased in China because I lost my camera just after all the Day 3 pics. Day 3a shots were taken by a friend in China, which is why I'm in all but one of them.
If you need stories to go with the pictures, feel free to email me and I'll say a few syllables about them. Hope you enjoy these! here they are...
Series Twelve: Rock and Roll. Right now, I've got five pictures of some of my guitar heroes. I hope to do more in the days to come, but in case I don't, here they are...

Family (and friends)
Here are some older ones... newer ones are in the blog thingy at the front of the website.
2003-2005 photo section. It's about time I actually posted the pictures I keep taking. It's not all that hard, now that I'm using JAlbum. What a nifty utility, that...
School Pictures from 2002-2005If you're a student or interested alum from Berkner High School in those years, you'll want to see these. If not, well, you won't.
The whole family pitched in on making these pages. Some are about our travels. Some are family pictures. Some are just things we put together. It's all good, so here we go:
- Dad's Vegas Vacation
Spectacular views, terrible photography.
- Family Pictures
- Visit the Otters!
We took a trip to the Texas State Aquarium in March of 2000, and fell in love with the otters on display there. Everyone helped add to this piece, but the kids give the most descriptions, especially a very excited expostulation contributed by our Jarom. By the way, if anyone can figure out what Jarom's saying, do let us know...
