Honestly, I should have a camera with me every time I go to a new restaurant. This last one I went to was a little food court place in a Vietnamese mall near my school. They specialized in a cold roast duck served over pickled cabbage and with a yummy rice soup. OK, so the pickled cabbage may not sound like "yum!" to everyone out there in Internetland, but it gave the dish a certain sweetness that blended wonderfully with the shaved peanuts and cilantro. I was bowled over by the bold flavors - and it was all in a six dollar lunch.
After lunch, I hit a Vietnamese bakery... let me tell you, anywhere the French used to run is going to have a good bakery. Any people from a former French colony are going to take those mad baking skillz with them. I went for a chocolate roll for a buck there... ooooh, it was so good! Like a donut in sweetness, but without any of the heaviness and with a great finish.
